About Miami Heat/Miami Nights

The Giordino family has built a life in Miami around strong family traditions, close relationships, and an enduring commitment to one another. Their lives become increasingly complicated as unexpected romances introduce new people into their tightly connected circle. Marie Force’s Miami Heat/Miami Nights series combines contemporary romance, family drama, and emotional healing against the vibrant backdrop of South Florida, exploring love, loss, personal sacrifice, and the challenges of building lasting relationships.

Originally associated with the Miami Heat name, the series is published as Miami Nights. Its stories centre on members of the Giordino family and the people whose lives become intertwined with theirs. Although each full-length novel features a different romantic couple, the recurring characters and continuing family developments create a connected narrative.

The series begins with How Much I Feel (2020), introducing Carmen Giordino, a public relations professional at Miami-Dade General Hospital. Carmen has worked hard to advance her career, but an unexpected assignment threatens to disrupt her professional ambitions.

She is instructed to manage the public image of Dr. Jason Northrup, a highly accomplished neurosurgeon whose reputation for arrogance and difficult behaviour has created problems for the hospital.

Their initial encounters are far from promising. Carmen considers Jason an infuriating responsibility, while Jason resents the interference in his professional life. As they spend more time together, however, their assumptions begin to change.

The relationship allows Force to explore the contrast between public reputation and private experience. Carmen gradually discovers complexities beneath Jason’s confident exterior, while he begins recognising the determination and compassion that distinguish her.

How Much I Care (2020) follows Mia Giordino and Austin Beaufort. Austin is a professional baseball player whose successful career has brought considerable public attention, but his personal life becomes increasingly complicated by circumstances outside his control.

When Mia and Austin become connected through an unexpected situation involving a vulnerable child, their relationship develops around shared responsibility and difficult decisions. Their romance explores trust, family commitment, and the possibility of discovering love while attempting to help someone else.

In How Much I Love (2021), the focus shifts to Dee Giordino and Wyatt, whose growing attraction is complicated by serious uncertainty about the future.

Wyatt faces circumstances that make him reluctant to begin a committed relationship. He fears that becoming involved with Dee would be unfair when he cannot guarantee the stability she deserves.

Their story explores the emotional difficulties of loving someone whose future is uncertain, particularly when protecting another person from potential heartbreak may mean denying both people an opportunity for happiness.

The companion novella Nochebuena (2022) brings the Giordino family together for Christmas Eve celebrations. Its title refers to the traditional festive gathering observed in many Hispanic households, reflecting the family’s cultural heritage and the importance of shared celebrations.

Rather than concentrating on a completely separate romantic couple, the novella revisits established characters and relationships, offering a more intimate glimpse into the family outside the central conflicts of the longer novels.

How Much I Want (2022) follows Nico Giordino and Sofia, a mother whose young son, Mateo, is recovering from surgery for a brain tumour.

Sofia is struggling to care for her son while ending a difficult marriage and working at the Giordino family’s restaurant. Her responsibilities leave little room for romance, particularly with a man whose reputation suggests that involvement could bring further complications.

Nico’s attraction to Sofia challenges his previous approach to relationships. Her determination to protect Mateo forces him to consider whether he is prepared for the responsibilities accompanying a serious commitment.

The fifth novel, How Much I Need (2023), centres on Milo Giordino, who is recovering after being shot in the neck. The attack has left him confronting physical limitations and the frightening possibility that his injuries could have been considerably worse.

His recovery also affects his family, particularly his older brother Nico, who feels responsible because the bullet was intended for him. As Milo begins rebuilding his life, an unexpected romantic connection offers another opportunity for personal change.

Throughout the series, Miami provides more than an attractive coastal setting. The city’s cultural diversity, medical community, professional sports connections, and Cuban-American family traditions contribute to the characters’ identities and relationships.

The Giordinos’ close involvement in one another’s lives creates both comfort and complications. Family members provide practical assistance during crises, but their protective instincts can also make it difficult for individuals to maintain independence.

The Miami Nights series comprises five full-length novels and the holiday novella Nochebuena. Force has indicated that How Much I Need concludes the current sequence, although she has left open the possibility of revisiting the characters.

What distinguishes Miami Nights is its emphasis on romance developing amid substantial personal responsibilities. Serious illness, complicated careers, family obligations, and emotional uncertainty shape the protagonists’ decisions. Through the Giordino family, Force portrays love not simply as an individual experience but as part of a larger network of relationships in which compassion, loyalty, and resilience remain essential.
