Heather Graham’s The Blackbird Files is a three-book romantic-suspense and crime-thriller series that follows FBI special agents Luke Kendrick and Carly MacDonald as they investigate a succession of disturbing murders across Europe. Published in 2024, the series grows out of Graham’s broader interest in international investigations, historical crimes, ritualistic killings, and dangerous offenders who deliberately use symbolism and spectacle to complicate the work of law enforcement.
The trilogy begins with Death Behind Every Door, which places Luke and Carly in Scotland. Their investigation involves a series of murders linked by gruesome staging and details that suggest the killer is drawing inspiration from older legends and violent history. Castles, remote landscapes, and the weight of Scotland’s past provide more than atmosphere; they become part of the killer’s method, forcing the agents to understand both contemporary evidence and the historical references embedded in the crimes.
