The Ink Black Heart
The Ink Black Heart (2022)
The Ink Black Heart begins when Robin is approached by Edie Ledwell, the co-creator of a cult animated series who is being harassed online by a shadowy figure using the name Anomie. Robin turns the job down, but when Edie is later murdered, she and Strike are pulled into a case rooted in fandom, anonymity, and the uglier side of internet obsession. What makes the premise especially compelling is the way it turns a digital world into something intensely personal and dangerous. The investigation moves through online communities, hidden identities, and simmering resentments, giving the novel a more contemporary, chaotic edge than the earlier books. At the center of it all, though, it is still very much a Strike story: a long, layered inquiry driven by patience, intuition, and the increasingly complicated bond between Strike and Robin.
