About Terri Blackstock
Terri Blackstock is an American bestselling novelist known for her Christian suspense, psychological thrillers, and emotionally compelling stories about ordinary people confronting extraordinary danger. With more than seven million books sold worldwide, she has established a successful career combining fast-paced mysteries with realistic characters and themes of faith, forgiveness, redemption, and personal responsibility. Her best-known works include the Cape Refuge, Newpointe 911, Restoration, and If I Run series, which demonstrate her ability to balance suspenseful storytelling with questions about morality and human resilience.
Born on December 7, 1957, in Belleville, Illinois, Blackstock spent much of her childhood moving between different locations because of her father’s service in the United States Air Force. During her first twelve years, she lived in nine states and attended her first four years of school in the Netherlands. Frequently adjusting to unfamiliar surroundings, she developed a strong imagination and found comfort in creating stories.
She later attended Northeast Louisiana University, graduating in 1981. Her professional writing career began in the early 1980s, when she sold her first novel at the age of twenty-five. During the following decade, she established herself as a romance novelist, publishing numerous books under pseudonyms including Tracy Hughes and Terri Herrington.
A significant turning point came in 1994, when a renewed commitment to her Christian faith prompted her to reconsider the direction of her fiction. Having already developed an interest in suspense and thriller novels, she began writing stories that combined dangerous situations with spiritual and ethical struggles. Rather than abandoning the dramatic tension of her earlier work, she incorporated questions about faith into plots involving crime, betrayal, and difficult personal decisions.
Her Sun Coast Chronicles series, beginning with Evidence of Mercy (1995), marked an important stage in this transition. The novels combine contemporary suspense with characters facing moral dilemmas, establishing the approach that would become central to her later work.
Blackstock subsequently developed the Newpointe 911 series, beginning with Private Justice (1998). Set in a fictional Louisiana community, the books follow emergency responders, law enforcement officers, and other residents whose lives become entangled in dangerous criminal investigations. The series reflects her interest in depicting professional responsibilities alongside the personal consequences of violence and tragedy.
The Cape Refuge series, launched in 2002, centres on a coastal Georgia community where criminal investigations expose hidden tensions beneath the appearance of small-town tranquillity. Its interconnected characters and continuing mysteries demonstrate Blackstock’s ability to sustain suspense while developing relationships across multiple novels.
One of her most distinctive concepts appears in the Restoration series, beginning with Last Light (2005). The story imagines a catastrophic technological failure that disables modern electrical systems, forcing communities to confront the sudden collapse of everyday conveniences. Through the resulting struggles for survival, Blackstock examines dependence on technology, social responsibility, and the choices people make under extreme pressure.
Her Intervention trilogy explores addiction, family relationships, and the consequences of destructive behaviour. The Moonlighters series, beginning with Truth Stained Lies (2013), follows three sisters whose involvement in criminal investigations creates both professional and personal dangers.
Blackstock achieved further recognition with the If I Run trilogy, launched in 2016. Centred on Casey Cox, a young woman fleeing after discovering her friend’s murder, the series combines a continuing fugitive narrative with corruption, psychological suspense, and an evolving relationship built upon uncertain trust. The first novel was adapted into a Lifetime television movie released in 2025.
Her standalone novels include Catching Christmas, Smoke Screen, and Aftermath, which explore different forms of personal crisis while retaining her emphasis on emotional consequences and moral choices.
Blackstock has received numerous literary honours, including two Carol Awards, a Christian Retailers Choice Award, and a Romantic Times Career Achievement Award. Twisted Innocence also received the 2016 Christy Award for suspense.
Her writing is distinguished by accessible prose, urgent pacing, and protagonists whose beliefs are tested rather than presented as uncomplicated solutions. Faith remains an important element, but her characters frequently experience doubt, anger, grief, and uncertainty before arriving at difficult decisions.
Across her interconnected series and standalone thrillers, Blackstock has developed a recognisable approach to inspirational suspense. Her novels examine how ordinary individuals respond when familiar protections disappear, personal loyalties become uncertain, and survival requires courage, compassion, and difficult moral choices.
