Cynthia Eden’s Night Watch series is a paranormal romance trilogy centered on a Baton Rouge bounty-hunting agency whose operatives pursue criminals from the hidden supernatural population known as the Other. Night Watch employs hunters capable of dealing with threats ordinary law enforcement cannot easily contain, including vampires, demons, shifters, and other dangerous paranormal beings. Each novel concentrates on a different couple, while the agency, recurring hunters, and supernatural world provide continuity across the series.
The first story focuses on Jude Donovan, one of Night Watch’s most formidable bounty hunters. Jude is a powerful shifter accustomed to tracking predators, but his assignment involving assistant district attorney Erin Jerome quickly becomes personal. Erin has spent considerable effort concealing her own supernatural nature while attempting to maintain an ordinary professional life. When a stalker begins leaving bodies for her, she needs protection from someone capable of understanding exactly what is hunting her. Jude recognizes both her secret and the seriousness of the threat, placing their developing attraction inside an investigation where neither character is as human—or as vulnerable—as appearances suggest.
Night Watch then shifts attention to Sandra “Dee” Daniels, a human bounty hunter whose family was killed by vampires. That history has turned vampire hunting into something deeply personal for her and shaped an uncompromising view of the creatures she pursues. Simon Chase disrupts those assumptions. He has secrets of his own, including the fact that he is a vampire, while an exceptionally powerful Born Master closes in on Dee. Her story uses the series’ supernatural conflict to challenge the distinction between monster and ally: Dee has spent years defining vampires as enemies, only to find herself dependent on and attracted to one.
The third novel brings hybrid demon Zane Wynter into the leading role. Like Jude and Dee, Zane works as a Night Watch bounty hunter, using abilities that make him particularly effective against supernatural fugitives. His pursuit of Jana Carter becomes complicated when he discovers that the apparent criminal he is hunting may instead have been framed. Jana is an Ignitor with an extraordinary connection to fire, and her abilities make her valuable to Project Perseus, a dangerous organization seeking supernatural subjects. The relationship between Zane and Jana therefore develops alongside a larger threat involving exploitation of paranormal power rather than a simple fugitive hunt.
One potentially confusing aspect of Night Watch is its publication history. The trilogy first appeared in 2010 under the titles Eternal Hunter, I’ll Be Slaying You, and Eternal Flame. Eden regained the opportunity to release the books again in 2024 and retitled them Hunt Me Down, Slay My Name, and Face Your Demon respectively. These are re-releases of the original three stories, not six separate novels. Eden’s current bibliography lists the newer titles as Night Watch Books 1–3, and the complete trilogy was later collected in a Night Watch box set.
Across the trilogy, Eden uses Night Watch as a framework for exploring different corners of the same paranormal society. Shifters, vampires, demons, and other supernatural beings may be hunters in one story and hunted in another, preventing species alone from determining who is dangerous. The romantic pairings change, but each involves characters forced to reconsider assumptions about the person—or creature—they should fear.
Night Watch is consequently a compact shared-world series rather than one romance extended across several volumes. Its cohesion comes from the bounty-hunting agency and the concealed world it polices, while Jude, Dee, and Zane give each installment a different perspective on what it means to hunt monsters when the hunters themselves are anything but ordinary.
