About Nicole Zoltack
Nicole Zoltack is an American author whose unusually broad fantasy bibliography ranges across paranormal romance, urban fantasy, epic fantasy, fairy-tale retellings, supernatural academy stories, historical romance, and darker fantasy adventure. Although romance runs through much of her work, Zoltack has resisted confining herself to one narrow branch of the genre. Knights, witches, vampires, werewolves, dragons, angels, demons, superheroes, and other supernatural figures populate a career distinguished as much by its sheer variety as by any single long-running series. She is also a USA Today bestselling author and has worked professionally as an editor, proofreader, and ghostwriter.
One of the foundations of Zoltack’s career is the Kingdom of Arnhem trilogy, beginning with Woman of Honor. The project originated from her participation in National Novel Writing Month and developed from an intended historical romance into medieval fantasy romance. Its heroine’s determination to become a knight established several interests that would remain visible throughout Zoltack’s later fiction: women challenging expectations, romantic relationships unfolding within dangerous fantasy settings, and stories where adventure is inseparable from the supernatural or extraordinary.
Her catalog expanded dramatically from that starting point. The Magic Incarnate books explore magical abilities and destiny, while series such as Bedlam in Bethlehem, Magical Hunters Academy, Moonstone Academy, Blood Haven Academy, and Rebel, Supernatural Bounty Hunter move through different variations of paranormal and urban fantasy. Other sequences include Age of Dragons, Court of Wolves, Queenmaker, Immortal Ties, A Girl and Her Hellhounds, and The Winged Beast Chronicles. The diversity of these settings makes her bibliography less like one interconnected universe and more like a collection of distinct fantasy worlds built around recurring supernatural archetypes.
Zoltack has also repeatedly returned to fairy tales and familiar fantasy motifs, often reshaping them into darker or more romantic forms. Once Upon a Darkened Night is particularly representative of that approach, using recognizable fairy-tale foundations as material for alternate interpretations rather than straightforward retellings. Elsewhere she blends supernatural adventure with academy fiction, bounty hunters, magical prisons, immortal bloodlines, demonic or angelic characters, and apocalyptic conflicts. Her work therefore shifts readily between romantic fantasy and action-oriented paranormal fiction without abandoning its emphasis on relationships and character loyalties.
Romance remains the most consistent thread connecting these otherwise varied projects. Zoltack has described herself as particularly interested in fantasy, paranormal, time-travel, and Regency romance, and her historical work demonstrates that supernatural elements are not essential to her storytelling. Her Beyond Boundaries stories, for example, use Regency-era class differences as obstacles between couples, showing the same interest in characters pushing against restrictions that appears in her fantasy worlds in more overtly magical forms.
Her bibliography is also notable for its independent-publishing dimension and exceptionally high output. Alongside full-length novels, Zoltack has produced shorter works, boxed collections, spin-offs, and contributions to shared-world projects, making individual series a more useful way to navigate her writing than treating everything as one chronological progression. Her first self-published story was Bloodlust, an epic fantasy romance centered on a barbarian princess and a goliath, another early indication of the mixture of romance and speculative adventure that would become central to her career.
Across that extensive body of work, Zoltack’s clearest identity is as a genre-blending fantasy storyteller. Some series emphasize romance, others supernatural conflict or academy adventure, and still others medieval or Regency settings, but her fiction consistently favors heightened worlds, unconventional heroines, dangerous powers, and relationships tested by circumstances far outside ordinary life.
